Start with the job
A useful recommendation explains who a product is for and what tradeoffs come with it. We begin with the reader’s job, build a shortlist, and evaluate the factors below. We distinguish vendor claims, researched observations, and first-hand test results.
Features
We map capabilities to the task they support. A published assessment should identify the plan tested, what worked, and the limits encountered. More features do not automatically mean a better fit.
Pricing
We record currency, billing term, seats, usage allowances, and required add-ons. We compare the cost of the plan that can complete the job, including renewal terms where relevant.
Ease of use
A representative workflow should cover setup, routine use, and maintenance. We record friction for both the person configuring the software and the people using it every day.
Integrations
We distinguish a listed connection from a tested workflow. We check which information moves, what permissions it needs, and how failures are surfaced.
Performance
Any performance claim must describe the device, conditions, workload, and measurement method. An impression of speed is not a benchmark.
Support
We separate documented support commitments from observed response quality. A support test should record the channel, question, timing, and outcome.
Use cases
Recommendations specify the team, task, and constraints they address. We explain when a tool is a poor fit as clearly as when it is useful.
Value for money
We weigh the result against the full cost of setup, training, subscription, and ongoing administration. The cheapest advertised plan is not always the most economical choice.
Ratings and evidence
We do not fabricate ratings or aggregate community reviews. A numerical editorial score may only be published with named authorship, verification sources, and a written rationale. Unrated products display “Not yet rated.”
